Essential Oils For Your Health

essential oils 2The 60’s was a time of revolution and the introduction into the public eye of the counterculture. We were introduced to hippies and their goal for a more natural way of life which included eating organic foods and using natural cosmetics in order to benefit the skin and hair but more importantly the environment and Mother Earth. Although it has been close to 6 decades since that magical time in American history certain aspects of that time still remain. Many people still focus their energies on eating organic and using natural shampoos and other cosmetics. This intention has created a huge natural organic cosmetics marketplace with new companies popping up every day. This is a wonderful development for those of us that strive to use the best ingredients and the best cosmetics that benefit our hair and skin. The philosophy is that when you look and feel great that energy is transferred to the world around us creating a place where everyone feels content and excited for another day. This may seem like a stretch but I personally have been living this lifestyle for years now and can claim that it has done me and my body well.

Some of the products that I have included into my daily self-care practice are things like essential oils. The world of essential oils is a huge and complex space filled with magical healing scents and natural properties that benefit your mind, body and spirit. With all these wonderful things it is a surprise more people don’t use essential oils. The question I get asked most of the time is what are my favorite essential oils? I love this question because there are essential oils 4so many I love. First off is lavender oil. This is an essential oil that most people have heard of. This is because its scent is used for everything from soaps to laundry detergents. The reason why? The scent is delicious! Studies have been made on this essential oil and what they have found is that lavender oil can have more benefits than just smelling nice. It has been shown to induce a feeling of calm and relaxation. This is why many people use it on their pillows and clothes so they can stay calm and help get better sleep. I use this oil in my shampoo and in my meditation practices. I recommend that most people should give this essential oil a try because it is one of the best smelling and versatile oils on the market. Most natural cosmetics companies produce their version of lavender oil. Maple Holistics makes a nice bottle.

The other essential oil I use quite frequently is tea tree oil. This essential oil is more of a medicine in its application. Its anti-fungal properties make it ideal to fight things like athletes foot naturally. This is a major reason why I have a vial of the oil in my medicine cabinet just in case. It also works on dandruff which is why you will see many companies offering shampoos with the oil.
